My Experience

BUSINESS -

In business, I drove sales, trust, and growth by building a service department that consistently delivered on what customers needed. By being proactive and forward‑thinking - and by genuinely listening to customers as they expressed their needs - we expanded opportunities and created services tailored to them.

CONSTRUCTION -

In construction, I helped deliver not only residential projects but also major civil roadwork and critical infrastructure on military bases, navigating complex timelines, regulations, and expectations. Throughout these efforts, I actively engaged key stakeholders and owners, turning a naturally stressful construction process into a collaborative one built on communication, accountability, and trust.

LAW ENFORCEMENT -

In my first law enforcement job, I had the vision and voice for a response team that could be used for various needs, and that vision and those foundational ideas are being implemented today by this agency.

Additionally, in my law enforcement career, I have been a key stakeholder in the development of our judicial Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), A sexual violence prosecution team that served the judicial district, and our investigations unit.

The mission of our SART program is a program made up of a multidisciplinary team partnered together to provide interagency, coordinated responses to sexual assault cases within the 5th Judicial District, prioritizing victims' needs, holding offenders accountable, promoting public safety, while developing protocols and best practices to ensure victims are receiving available resources in our communities. The SART is also a place to look at improving services to adult and adolescent sexual assault victims, sexual assault investigations, evidence collection, and prosecution. We identify gaps in our service and close them through collaborative efforts and solution-based ideas.

Through this program, I was the lead author of a SART Protocol that aimed to improve our response to these cases by leveraging collaboration among key stakeholders across our judicial district. Contributors and collaborators to this protocol project were systems-based and community-based advocacy groups and centers, Child Advocacy Centers, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, the Health and Human Services Department, Probation, Prosecution, and law enforcement.

I was also instrumental in developing a Title IX protocol with the Eagle County School District and in working with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to develop a protocol and best-practice flow chart that considered Title IX requirements and needs while balancing the criminal investigation.

Through the sexual violence prosecution team, I have not only been a contributor to the SART Protocol, but also a contributor to a Department of Justice (DOJ) paper aimed at strengthening the national response to sexual assault and domestic violence of adult victims.

I developed a prosecutorial success matrix for our prosecutors to reinforce that "success" is not defined solely by a conviction or the volume of evidence in a case. The best outcome for a survivor may not be successful prosecution at all, but an outcome that honors their needs, safety, and wishes. Decisions about next steps should be driven by the survivor, restoring their power and control. At the same time, we support those choices through open, constructive dialogue and by providing resources that uphold the decisions they make for themselves.

Recognizing a gap in our previous language around computer-generated Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM), I worked with partners who were able to address language in definitions related to this type of material.

CHIEF INVESTIGATOR -

As the Chief Investigator, I developed a strategic plan for our investigations unit within the District Attorney's Office. The strategic plan was implemented, and it grew our team to the point where we can provide better service to our prosecutors and law enforcement, as well as expand the scope of our investigations.

I have been recognized for my ability to collaborate with community partners and secure funds for training that have benefited not only members within our judicial district but also throughout the state. I have coordinated trainings through these funds, providing needed training on strangulation, bringing in one of the nation's best experts on the topic of strangulation.

I have been the primary author of "Roll-Call" trainings that I put together based on new legislative updates, case law, and new rules, best practices, and laws. I disseminate these roll-calls throughout our judicial district.

I have cultivated a culture in our unit where investigators are expected to lead in their assigned areas and in areas of their expertise, not simply follow directions. They are empowered to make decisions, own their outcomes, and work in a culture that encourages innovative, fail‑forward ideas in pursuit of better results.

I am currently working with all CEO's (Chiefs and Sheriffs) and/or their designee on a judicial protocol for a judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). This team is a multi-jurisdictional investigative team whose purpose is to ensure that critical incidents are investigated with integrity, independence, and objectivity, that is, a thorough and impartial investigation of the highest quality, so that a determination can be made by the 5th Judicial District Attorney's Office as to whether or not a crime or crimes were committed.

Additionally, I have helped to implement new programs and technologies that streamline our workflow and improve the efficiency of not only our investigators but also other departments within the district attorney’s office. I have also resourced our existing programs and technologies already in use within the office and expanded their capabilities, again improving our overall efficiency.

COMMUNITY -

In my community, I speak to local high school students in US Government classes, where we discuss the US and Colorado Constitutions. I reinforce to the class their protections under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We speak about how they can understand and apply these protections in their everyday lives. We do this by associating everyday experiences and applications with their protections.

I also instruct at the Police Academy, where I help develop the next generation of law enforcement. I have taught search and seizure, self-defense/arrest control, active shooter response, vehicle stops, judicial processes, report writing, warrant preparation, and sexual assault investigations.

Because of Eagle County's uniqueness, on the weekends, I also serve as a Mountain Safety (Yellow Jacket) on our ski slopes, helping keep our ski areas safe by strengthening safety through education and collaboration.
